The Bharathiar University named after the great national poet Subramania Bharathi is enshrined with the motto "Educate to Elevate" and was established in 1982. The Postgraduate Centre of the University of Madras, which was functioning in Coimbatore before 1982 formed the core of the Bharathiar University. The M.Sc Bioinformatics programme was first started as the special programme under Department of Botany in the year 2001 and the Department of Bioinformatics has its complete inception in the year 2005. The Department offers MSc, MPhil and PhD programmes in the field of Bioinformatics. Research being the major activity of the department, the PhD program of the department focuses on Computational Biology and Bioinformatics projects such as data mining, text mining, machine learning applications in genomics and proteomics, sequence analysis, structural bioinformatics and in silico drug development.

About the Seminar
Data mining for genomics and proteomics is the core component of biomedical informatics in healthcare and medicine. The seminar is intended to bring together scientists and researchers from academia to focus attention on major areas of biomedical informatics to understand gene expression, drug design and other emerging problems in genomics and proteomics. This seminar includes plenary sessions that represent comprehensive Biological and Computational research in the areas of Genomics and Proteomics. No doubt, this seminar will certainly serve as a dais for exchange of innovative ideas and renowned experience of eminent scientists and research scholars. This seminar brings you a good exposure on Bioinformatics to researchers, faculty and students from various universities and different colleges.

Scope of fhe Seminar
The goal of this seminar is to encourage students and research scholars to take on the numerous challenges that Bioinformatics offers. This will provide a forum for identifying important contributions and opportunities for research on data mining and its application in biology and medicine.
Speakers
The seminar will feature invited talks from noted experts in the field from IISC, NT and other nationally important institutions.

Submission of Abstracts
Abstract of the paper (about 250 words) should be sent to the organizing secretary by email as a word file in Times New Roman, 12pt normal font with 1.5 line spacing. We encourage papers that propose novel data mining techniques for tasks such as:
• Microarray Analysis
• Computational Biology
• Protein/RNA Structure Prediction
• Data Mining and Text Mining in Bioinformatics
• Genomics and Proteomics
• Machine Learning in Bioinformatics
• Drug Design
• Evolutionary Computing
• Network and Pathway Analysis
• Systems Biology
• Sequence, Structure Analysis

Selected papers will be invited for oral/poster presentation in the seminar and later full length papers will be published in the conference proceedings.
