Applications are invited for a post of a full time Junior Research Fellow leading to Ph.D. from University of Madras, under the guidance of Dr. K.R. Uma Devi at the Department of Bacteriology, NIRT Chennai. The candidate will be expected to work on genotypic and phenotypic characterization of clinical and laboratory strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in a biosafety level 3 facility for CDC funded project. Besides the candidates will have opportunity to work with recombinant bacterial genomics and other cutting edge technologies like next generation sequencing. Candidates with eligible degrees and relevant experiences in molecular biology, immunology, bioinformatics and microbiology preferably laboratory research experiences are encouraged to send an email with covering letter along with a brief curriculum vitae to umadevi.r@nirt.res.in.

Qualification and experience:
1. Minimum 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA (in a 10-point scale) in the Master’s or equivalent degree in appropriate discipline with consistently good academic record. Provisional certificate is acceptable.
2. Minimum 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA (in a 10-point scale) is required in all other examinations.
3. The candidate must have secured a CSIR/UGC -JR/ ICMR-JRF or DBT/ DST INSPIRE fellowship.
4. Previous experience in handling infectious organisms, working in a biosafety facility is an added advantage.
5. Candidates should possess strong oral and written communication skills in English.
