The Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC, Kharghar, Navi Mumbai is the new state-of-the-art R&D satellite of the Tata Memorial Centre (TMC), which also includes under its umbrella the Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH), the largest cancer hospital in Asia. ACTREC has the mandate to function as a national centre for treatment, research and education in cancer. TMC is an autonomous grant-in-aid institution of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India. It is registered under the Societies Registration Act (1860) and the Bombay Public Trust Act (1950). Its Governing Council is headed by the Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission, Government of India.

Applications are invited, in the prescribed format, for the award of JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS [JRF 2014] for Ph.D. in LIFE SCIENCES at Tata Memorial Centre.

The Tata Memorial Centre (TMC) is an autonomous Grant-in-aid Institution of the Department of Atomic Energy. The TMC is comprised of the Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC) and the Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH). The TMC conducts Ph.D. program in Life Sciences and is affiliated to the Homi Bhabha National Institute (Deemed University). On-going research at TMC includes basic and translational research in Cancer Biology. Specific research topics include study of cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, metastasis, tumor immunology, molecular imaging, carcinogenesis, stem cell biology, biophysics, structural biology, bioinformatics, proteomics, genomics, genetics, epigenetics and glycobiology.

Qualifications: M.Sc. (Applied Biology/ Biochemistry/ Bioinformatics/ Biophysics/ Biotechnology/ Botany/ Life Sciences/ Microbiology/ Molecular Biology/ Zoology or related Biological Sciences); M.Tech. (Bioinformatics/ Biotechnology); M.V.Sc.; M.Pharm.; M.B.B.S.; from a recognized University, with >= 60% aggregate marks. Those awaiting results may also apply.


Stipend: Rs. 16000/-+ 30% HRA (if hostel facility is not allotted) per month as applicable. Limited hostel facility is available on the ACTREC campus on first come, first served basis.

HOW TO APPLY
All the candidates must first APPLY ONLINE [CLICK HERE], and then SUBMIT the filled and signed application along with all the enclosures mentioned in the application form and a Demand Draft (DD) for Rs. 300/- drawn in favor of TMC-ACTREC payable in Navi Mumbai (no fees for female candidates and for SC/ ST or physically handicapped candidates, provided proof is attached) so as to reach the Senior Administrative Officer, Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer, Tata Memorial Centre, Kharghar, Navi Mumbai – 410 210 latest by 14th April 2014.. Candidates must write their name and application number behind the DD. TMC reserves the right to increase the minimum eligibility criteria, in case of receipt of large number of applications. Incomplete forms and those without enclosures will be rejected.

A list of candidates found eligible to appear for the written exam will be displayed on the ACTREC website by 2nd May 2014. An ‘Objective type’ Written Exam will be held at Bharati Vidyapeeth’s Institute of Technology, opposite Kharghar Station, Sector 7, Belpada, CBD, Navi Mumbai - 400 614, on Sunday 1st June 2014 at 9.30 a.m. The list of candidates who have qualified in this exam will be displayed at the: (i) ACTREC website, (ii) Examination Centre, and (iii) ACTREC Security Gate on 2nd June 2014 after 7 p.m. Their interviews will be held at ACTREC on 3rd, 4th and 5th June 2014.

A separate list of candidates fulfilling our eligibility criteria and who have valid Junior Research Fellowships from CSIR/ UGC/ ICMR/ DBT or other recognized agencies will also be displayed on the ACTREC website by 2nd May 2014. They will be called for direct interview at ACTREC on 9th, 10th and 11th June 2014. Candidates who have applied online but have received external fellowship intimation after 14th April 2014 must send proof of the award by e-mail [jrf2014@actrec.gov.in] to seek direct interview dates.

The list of successful candidates will be displayed on the website on 20th June 2014 after 7 p.m.

The list of research projects being offered to Ph.D. students at TMC will be displayed on the ACTREC website by 2nd May 2014. Candidates are encouraged to interact with and seek information from the Principal Investigators whose names and e-mail IDs will be given against their respective projects.
