Job Description
SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS
The Senior Research Scientist, Computer-Aided Drug Discovery is responsible for the design and execution of computational experiments and collaborates with project scientists to apply analysis to the rational design and optimization of drug leads.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Use all available computational techniques to aid ongoing medicinal chemistry projects. These techniques will include receptor structure-based drug design, quantitative structure activity relationships, and conformational analysis.
2. Analyze computed results by visual and/or numerical inspection. Adapt future computations to allow rapid, successful production of valid and useful computer models.
3. Organize work time so that several computational tasks are run concurrently.
4. Design, implement and manage chemical and computational information to assist project teams.
5. Install and maintain chemical software as requested. Perform required system back-ups, maintenance and upgrades.
6. Manage workload and time to enable the incumbent to perform multiple projects effectively, and ensure all necessary paperwork is completed on a timely basis.
7. Train the scientists to use the scientific software programs.
8. Recommend and implement methods to increase the quality of products and/or services.
9. Submit acceptable written periodic reports.
10. Discuss routinely with supervisor the status of assigned programs and potential problems.
11. Volunteer to assist with tasks not directly related to specific projects.
12. Participate in self-development activities and training of others.
13. Perform other related duties as may be reasonably assigned in the course of business.
Education and/or Experience
• Ph.D. in Chemistry or Biochemistry
• 5+ years drug discovery experience
• Familiarly with QSAR, chemical information, relational databases, and/or programming in Fortran, C, C++, Perl, Java or ASP
• Familiarity with Physical Chemistry, Chemical Physics, Calculus, Computational Chemistry.
• Experience any of the following operating systems: Oracle, Unix, Windows or Macintosh
