National Institute for Research in Reproductive Health (NIRRH), formerly known as Institute for Research in Reproduction is a premier research institute of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). It is situated in the vicinity of a number of hospitals and research institutes in central Mumbai. Since its inception in 1970, it has been making vigorous efforts to improve the reproductive health of people through research, education and health care services. The Institute is affiliated to the University of Mumbai which awards degrees to the M.Sc. and Ph.D students in the areas of Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Biochemistry and Applied Biology. The Institute is one of the few centers in India , which can boast of a team of basic, clinical and operational research scientists and state-of-art laboratories equipped with modern facilities to carry out research on various components of reproductive health.

Applications are invited on for three posts of Scientist-B in the Pay Band -3 Rs. 15600-39100+ Rs. 5400 (Grade Pay).

(1) Scientist ‘B’ (Molecular Biology) ( UR)
Essential Qualification : (i) 1 st class Master’s Degree in Biochemistry/ Microbiology/Applied Biology / Molecular Biology / Biotechnology / Life Science from a recognized University or 2 nd class M. Sc. with Ph.D in relevant subject from a recognized University.

Desirable : i) Doctorate Degree in related Science subject from a recognized University. (ii) Additional Post doctoral research/teaching experience in relevant subjects in recognized Institute(s). (iii) Knowledge of Computer Applications.


Job requirement : To participate and strengthen the ongoing research programmes in the area of reproductive health.

2. Scientist-B (Clinical Research) (Reserved for OBC/PH).
Essential Qualification : (i) MBBS Degree recognized by MCI.


Desirable : i) M.D. in OB/Gyn from a recognized University. (ii) Additional Post doctoral research/teaching experience in relevant subjects in recognized institute(s). (iii) Knowledge of Computer Applications.

Job requirement : Participate and strengthen ongoing research activities in the area of clinical research, specially infertility, maternal & child health.

3. Scientist-B (Molecular Biology) ( UR)
Essential Qualification : (i) Ist class Master’s Degree in Life/Biological Science or relevant biological discipline from a recognized University or 2 nd class M. Sc. + Ph.D degree in relevant field from a recognized university.

Desirable : i) Doctorate Degree in Life/Biological Science from a recognized university. (ii) Additional Post doctoral research/teaching experience in medical/health subjects in recognized Institutes). (iii) Knowledge of Computer Applications.

Job requirement : Participate and strengthen ongoing research programmes in the area of reproductive health.

AGE :
Not exceeding 35 years. Relaxable up to 5 years for Government servants and SC/ST/OBC candidates in accordance with the instructions issued by the Department of Personnel and Training from time to time in this regard. However, the prescribed age may be relaxed in exceptional cases for experienced & qualified candidates.

One time age relaxation is also allowed to Scientific and Technical staff working in long term projects in ICMR Institutes/Centres for posts advertised under HRSC, 2007 provided they meet essential qualifications and experience for the post with a view to provide them opportunity to compete with other candidates as per Council’s letter No. 6/1/2007-Admn.II dated 28.03.2011.

General Relaxation clause: Age, qualification and experience will be relaxable in deserving cases as mentioned in the Recruitment Rules of Health Research Scientists Cadre of ICMR, 2007.

Allowances as per Central Government Rules are admissible on the above pay scale Benefits of new restructured defined Contributory Pension system are admissible as per the provision contained in the Ministry of Finance, Department of Economic Affairs (ECB & PR Division), Notification No. 5/7/2003-ECB & PR dated 22.12.2003 effective from 01.01.2004.

Private practice is not allowed, however, non-practicing allowance is admissible to medical graduates only as per rules. Candidates called for interview will be paid a 2 nd class rail fare by the shortest route on production of documents.

Applications from employees working in Central/State Govt. Departments Public Sector Undertakings and Govt. funded research agencies must be forwarded through proper channel. Advance copies of application will be considered subject to the condition that a ‘No Objection Certificate” from the employer is produced at the time of personal discussion.

Application form duly completed in all respects and signed by the applicant should be sent on the above mentioned address and should reach the Institute on or before the closing date along with attested copies of the certificates in support of date of birth, educational qualification, experience etc. and a crossed Indian Postal Order (IPO) for Rs. 100/- (Rupees One Hundred Only) payable to the Director, NIRRH, Mumbai. SC/ST & physically handicapped candidates (PH) are exempted from the application fees payable in form of IPO. IPOs are payable by all other candidates including ICMR employees. Incomplete/late applications or without postal orders will not be entertained. Application received after the closing date for whatever reason is liable to be rejected. Application with evidence for proof of age (HSC certificate), educational qualifications and supporting documents of experiences to be furnished for consideration. Unsigned / incomplete application or application without supportive evidence asked for / without postal order application received late shall be summarily rejected.

Note :- Since it may not be possible to call all the eligible candidates for the interview / personal discussion, the applicants will be short-listed for this purpose. M.D./Ph.D degree in subjects relevant to Indian Council of Medical Research shall be treated equivalent to three years experience respectively. Candidates with M.D./Ph.D degree will be preferred for direct recruitment. The decision of the Director General, ICMR will be final in this regard. Any canvassing by or on behalf of the candidates or to bring political or other outside influence with regard to selection / recruitment shall be disqualification.
