Applications are invited for the following post, to be filled up on purely temporary basis at National Institute of Pathology –ICMR, New Delhi under the task-force project entitled “Second Phase of Biomedical Informatics Centres of ICMR.” Under the task-force ICMR has established 20 Biomedical Informatics Centres of ICMR including one at NIP, New Delhi. The aim of this task-force is to nucleate and support informatics in medical research through organizing training programs, providing data management and analysis services to medical researchers and conduct research on understanding genetic causes of complex diseases through Association Studies and identifying potential diagnostic, drug and vaccine candidates using high throughput technologies.

Scientist – II (one post)
Essential qualification:
1. 1st Class M.Sc. in bioinformatics, computer science, computational biology, biostatistics or allied biological science
OR
2nd Class M.Sc. + Ph.D. in bioinformatics/ computer science/ computational biology/ biostatistics/ allied biological science
2. Four years post- qualifying degree experience in relevant area.
Age Limit: Not exceeding 40 years. Relax-able up to 5 years for SC/ST/OBC candidates in accordance with the instructions issued by the department of Personnel and Training from time to time in this regard.

Desirable:
1. Ph.D. in Bioinformatics/ computer science/ computational biology/ Comparative Genomics/Allied fields.
2. A background in DNA or RNA sequencing analysis, bioinformatics, genetics, and/or cancer biology with experience in handling and analyzing Next-Generation Sequencing Data.
3. Strong programming experience in Java and/or C/C++ on a LINUX/UNIX platform and/or scripting and analysis languages (R, Matlab, Python, PERL).
4. Experience developing Web applications using Python/Django and JQuery.
5. Experience in conceptualizing and executing collaborating /independent research projects
6. Demonstration of excellent data analysis, strong communication skills, outstanding team player, proven ability to work in a team to produce strong results. Ability to engage in clear written and oral communication.
7. Experience developing analytical tools using NumPy.
8. Strong statistical background, previous industry experience, familiarity with common bioinformatics tools, experience with high performance computing, experience working in cancer biology or human / microbial genomics / proteomics.
Duties/Responsibilities:

1) Work on research projects available at Bioinformatics Centre
2) Help in developing projects related to Epigenomics and other areas of Biomedical Informatics
3) Actively communicate with medical researchers from regional medical research institutes and medical colleges and initiate collaborative projects
4) Help in task-force activities such as organizing meetings, training programs, preparing minutes, background documents reports, budget etc.
NOTE:

1. PhD or MD in relevant subject shall be treated equivalent to three years of experience.
2. Candidates with PhD or MD or M.Tech degree will be preferred.
Salary:

Consolidate Salary of Rs. 38,184 + 30% (on Rs 22,200/-) HRA per month

Scientist – I (one post)
Essential qualification:
1. 1st Class M.Sc. in bioinformatics, computer science, computational biology, biostatistics or allied biological science
OR
2nd Class M.Sc. + Ph.D. in bioinformatics/computer science/ computational biology/biostatistics/ allied biological science
2. Two years post-qualifying degree experience in relevant area.

Research Assistant (one post)
Essential qualification:
1. M.Sc./M.Tech (Bioinformatics/Life Science/Biostatistics or allied filed) with computational skills OR M.Sc./M.Tech in Computer Science with a strong interest in Bioinformatics.
Age Limit: Not exceeding 35 years. Relax-able up to 5 years for SC/ST/OBC candidates in accordance with the instructions issued by the department of Personnel and Training from time to time in this regard.
Desirable:
1. NET/GATE qualified
2. Experience in Molecular Biology Techniques / Bioinformatics
Duties/Responsibilities:
1) To undertake computer and laboratory work and assist in coordination of research activities.
Salary:
Consolidate Salary of Rs. 22,120

The Terms & Conditions for the post are as follows:
1. The post is to be filled up only on purely temporary basis and will be renewed annually.
2. The duration of appointment is for one year initially. It may be extended up to 5 years with periodical evaluation.
3. Appointees will be co-terminated with the termination of the project anytime. The appointment can be terminated with one month notice from either side without assigning any reason.
4. Since the post is purely temporary, the incumbents selected will have no claim for regular appointments under ICMR or continuation of his/her services in any other project.
5. Benefits of provident fund, CCA, Leave Travel Concession, Medical Claim etc. are not applicable.
6. Age relaxation is for SC, ST & OBC candidates as per Govt. Rules. Age relaxation may be considered for deserving and highly qualified experienced person on the recommendation of selection committee.
7. No TA/DA etc. will be given to attend the Interview or joining of post and candidate should make his/her own arrangement for stay for interview and joining of post
8. Qualification and experience should be from a reputed organization
9. Experience will be counted only after completion of minimum educational qualification
10. Mere fulfilling the essential qualification does not guarantee for the interview call and selection.
11. Canvassing in any form will be a disqualification.
12. Persons already in regular time scale service under any Government Department / Organizations are not eligible to apply.
13. Consolidated salary of each post may be revised as per ICMR instructions.
14. Separate application should be submitted for each post.
15. PhD or MD degree in subjects relevant to Indian Council of Medical research shall be treated equivalent to three years experience respectively.
