Punjab government will set up two Ayush hospitals in the state

The government of Punjab will establish two 50-bed Ayush hospitals in the state, Health Minister Brahm Mohindra said. Standardized services of Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy would also be provided to patients indoors and outdoors in these hospitals, he added.

The state government would soon start hospital construction work, costing around Rs 12.5 crore. He said that the government of Punjab is to start the thalassemia treatment center of Ayuveda in Ludhiana and Rs 36 lakh have been sanctioned to establish the center.

In a first-of-its-kind initiative, treatment of thalassemia will be provided to patients at this center, he said, adding earlier, thalassemia patients had to go to Gujarat for treatment. To provide thalassemia treatment in Punjab, special training had been given to seven Ayurvedic Medical Officers (AMOs) in Ahmedabad in Gujarat and now patients would soon receive Ayurvedic treatment in the center of Ludhiana, he added.

Mohindra said that, while maintaining the vision of significant value of Ayurveda, the Punjab government has also qualified a program to restore the pristine glory of Ayurveda. According to this, emergency services would also be introduced in Ayurveda hospitals, he said.w

 

The minister said that 463 rural Ayurvedic clinics and 47 municipal clinics, 17 Swasth Kendras, five Ayurveda hospitals, one Panchkarma center, one Yoga and Naturopathy unit in Mohali and one Drug Testing Laboratory under central scheme in Patiala already operate in the state. He said that Ayurveda drugs were being checked in the drug testing lab to improve the standards and all medications offered free in hospitals.
