Job Description
Dow Pharma & Food Solutions (DP&FS) is an important business for Dow, consisting of versatile polymers finding applications in a wide variety of industry segments – from pharmaceuticals to food to personal care to other industrial applications. DPFS business unit consists of polymers METHOCEL™ (methyl cellulose, hydroxy propyl methyl cellulose), ETHOCEL™ (ethyl cellulose), POLYOX™ (polyethylene oxide), AFFINISOL™ solubilization polymers, and many more developmental materials. Dow is the industry leader for specialty excipients used in pharmaceutical formulations as a binder, coating, controlled/immediate release matrix agents in oral solid dosage forms and trans mucosal delivery routes, and solubilization.

Apart from supplying excipients to provide solutions for the pharmaceutical industry’s needs, Dow also has offerings that can help enhance active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) solubility using various processing techniques such as hot melt extrusion and spray dried dispersions.


The candidate should demonstrate a polymer/material science mindset applying innovative ideas to enhance current or new API bioavailability, develop an understanding of polymer structure property relationships and possible API-excipient interactions. Research will be conducted using theoretical simulation techniques and experimental approaches applying design of experiment (DOE) approaches for formulation and process development/scale-up.

Prior exposure to API chemistries and pharmaceutical formulation or process development for techniques, such as hot melt extrusion or spray dried dispersions would be an added advantage. 


Candidate will work closely with our global R&D expertise centres and the local technical/commercial teams in offering the right solutions to our customer needs

The candidate will report to the R&D Director in India and would be based in Mumbai India, and will closely work with global functional leaders in driving new technologies to towards successful commercialization.

Candidate Profile
PhD Degree in Pharmacy, chemical engineering, chemistry, polymer science/engineering, material science  or applied sciences with relevant prior industrial experience of at least 10 years  with Six sigma certification (as Green or black belt) preferred.
