ABOUT THE SYMPOSIUM
The theme of the symposium "Drug Development through Natural Products" is novel in itself as most of the drugs or medicinally active molecules have derived their background from plant sources and these plants have provided ' Lead molecules" as template for the drug discovery and development. Commercially, many of them are now synthesized using chemical reactions. The symposium will highlight the journey of the new drug from its discovery to its entry into the commercial market. This symposium shall provide a viable and informative platform for academicians, scientists and researchers to update their skills, expertise and current opinion in regulatory norms and experimental design required to elicit the research on new drugs derived from the natural origin to be targeted for commerce. Moreover, the state of Himachal Pradesh is divinely blessed with a plethora of medicinally enriched herbal diversity, many of these traditionally or ethnobotanically claimed medicinal plants lacks evidence based validation of their therapeutic/ prophylactic activities. There is a dire requirement of establishing its authentication and standardization of the bioactive principles. The drug development of plant derived molecules have tremendous scope as they are more accepted globally as compared to the synthetically derived molecules as being biogenetically derived in the plants. The plenary sessions are designed on three vibrant themes focusing different key facets of the process of New Drug Development process by esteemed prominent speakers of the country.
